Making of Form and Order

In this project, we were asked to design a chapel located on the Farmingdale State College campus. This chapel is supposed to be available to people of all faiths so that anyone can come to worship and reflect. We were asked to use light in a creative way. For this project, we have to make the light enter our building in a unique way. I had to take into consideration where the light was coming from throughout the year and make my building use the light to its advantage.

Background Research

I researched the Notre Dame Du Haut. It was designed by a French architect named, Le Corbusier. The chapel was built in 1955 in Ronchamp, France.

Section of Notre Dame Du Haut. This section shows how he used the angled walls to change the direction of light coming into the building.

These are Photos of the building using different shaped openings to manipulate light. You can also see that it looks like the roof is floating above the walls.
